Community Impact

Habitat for Humanity

As part of one of the philosophies of FIRST, giving back to our community is one of our most favored, non-technical activities. This community service project was coordinated with Habitat for Humanity, a volunteer organization that builds homes for the underprivileged. We arrived at the build site where two houses were being built. We then split into groups and were given jobs by a habitat volunteer. Some went to prime and paint, some went to put up siding, and some went to lay down tile. It was quite fun learning different construction skills, and being around all of our teammates made this a great experience for everyone.

Biodiesel Project

Crevolution robotics is going green and trying to help save money for our school district and community. We are in the process of making biodiesel to help save the school district and community tons of money in the transportation department. The team is planning to have a test batch of Biodiesel done by the end of competition. After the test batch is made, the team plans to test it on our own bus and then present our results to the school district and later to the community. We hope to create a system between our school district and community with our local restaurants to help one another make the planet better. Once biodiesel is put into place at the schools, we could take the results and present them to the community for them to use on their diesel machines, saving them a lot of money and bettering our environment.

Bowling Fundraiser

On Sunday, December 20, 2009, our team held a bowling fundraiser at Sunnybrook Lanes on 17 mile road.  We held this fundraiser to raise money for both team funds as well as a charity for one of our sponsors, BAE Systems.  This charity helps to provide summer programs for underprivileged children.  The price for one person was fifteen dollars, which included two games of bowling and two slices of pizza.  Along with the price of entry, the other ways we raised money included through companies who paid to get advertising above a lane as well as a 50/50 raffle.  The companies that sponsored a lane were DSM Saw Services, Keena's Collision and Dr. Nicholas Leone M.D.  Everyone had a great time at this event and we hope to have one again so that we can help out the community even more.

First Lego League Mentoring

Mike Coyle was an FFL mentor for Jack Harvey elementary.  Jon Dittmer, along with him, acted as building coaches.  They helped the elementary students to make a robustly built and programmed Lego machine.  Although the Harvey Gearheads did not make it to the state competition, they had a very successful rookie year.  The team consisted of 15 children in 4th through 6th grade. They got a late start and only worked for three weeks, but were able to make an excellent product.  The students learned to work together in a stressful environment and to meet a deadline for an engineering project.
